In honor of Black Breastfeeding Week 2022, Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA) hosted a virtual panel discussion on the systemic failures and inequities we see in human milk feeding and infant formula access, as well as the solutions we demand and deserve in our communities. Panelists included Dr. Ifeyinwa V. Asiodu, Dr. Nastassia K. Harris, and two of the co-founders of Black Breastfeeding Week, Kiddada Green and Kimberly Seals Allers. On June 13, 2022, BMMA issued a collective statement on the infant formula shortage in the United States.

The Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA) hosted a virtual panel discussion around narrative change, messaging, and illuminating the connection between Black Maternal Health and abortion care. Moderated by BMMA’s Executive Director Angela D. Aina, panelists across different sectors participated in an impactful conversation including Dr. Jamila Taylor (Health Care Reform), Jamarah Amani (National Black Midwives Alliance), Dr. Joia Crear-Perry (National Birth Equity Collaborative), Dr. Monica McLemore (BMMA), and Kwajelyn Jackson (Feminist Women’s Health Center).
A Community Perspective on Maternal Mortality Review Committees: Community Driven Best Practices –

This presentation was conducted as a session during the 2020 Association for Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) Virtual Conference. The session presentation speakers were: Angela D. Aina (BMMA), Breana Lipscomb (Center for Reproductive Rights), and Dr. Jamila Perritt (BMMA). This session presented on a best practices issue brief from the community-based organizations’ perspective to improve the effectiveness of Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs) and recommendations to states on improving the composition and implementation of MMRCs.
