What is the Black Maternal Health Conference and Training Institute?
The Inaugural Black Maternal Health Conference and Training Institute, founded and led by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, will be the premiere assembly for Black women, clinicians, professionals, advocates, and other stakeholders working to improve maternal health using the birth justice, reproductive justice, and human rights frameworks. Who are the Black Mamas Matter Alliance?
BMMA is a black women-led, cross-sectional national alliance. We center Black mamas to advocate, drive research, build power, and shift culture for Black maternal health, rights, and justice. Visit our website for more information.
Where is the Opening Soirée taking place?
The Opening Soirée is a ticketed event only. Participants must purchase tickets in advance to attend. Additional information will be e-mailed to participants after successful registration for the event.
Will I be able to register for the BMHC18 Conference on site?
All events (Conference and Opening Soirée) are RSVP Only. Registration is now closed due to reaching the full capacity of the conference venue. NO ONSITE REGISTRATION!
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
To cancel your Conference registration or participation to the Opening Soirée, please send an email to conference@blackmamasmatter.org. No refunds will be issued for cancellation of the Conference registration or Opening Soirée – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Can I transfer my registration to another individual?
Yes. To do so, please send an email to conference@blackmamasmatter.org by Friday, November 16, 2018. Your email must include your name, registration confirmation number, and the name and email address of the individual who will be taking your place.
Can I make a payment by check?
Yes, registration payments can be made by check. Please email conference@blackmamasmatters.org for detailed instructions on how to register by check payment.
Is there a room block or discounted hotel rate available?
Registration for the conference does not include hotel, travel, activities, or meals other than those specified in the event details. Registrants are required to make their own hotel and lodging accommodations.
Who do I contact for any questions?
For any questions about the conference, registration, payments, refunds, etc., please email conference@blackmamasmatter.org. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response.
Where can I park during the BMHC18 Conference?
If you are driving to the conference, parking will be provided as part of your registration. Please park in United Way parking deck and bring your parking ticket inside for validation. The United Way parking deck is the building that is connected to the Loudermilk building.
Will meals be provided at the BMHC18 Conference?
Dinner will be provided during the Opening Soirée on Friday, December 7. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided on Saturday, December 8 and a light breakfast and brunch will be provided on Sunday, December 9.
What can attendees expect?
Attendees can expect an exciting, innovative, and much-needed discussion around Black Maternal Health. We are bringing together researchers, health professionals, advocates, mamas, and students with a passion for health equity and reproductive justice for Black mamas. Are children permitted?
Black Mamas Matter Alliance supports the whole family and we know that comes with kids. Children ages 5 years and younger can attend the conference on December 8-9, 2018, and childcare will be provided during conference hours for a discounted fee of $100 per child. This fee includes the cost of food and beverage, venue, and hiring of childcare professional during the conference. To register your child, please select the Childcare Registration ticket. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate children over the age of 5 years. Please make other childcare arrangements for children 5 years of age and older.
Nursing children or children under the age of 2 can attend the Conference free of charge if they stay with their accompanying parent/guardian throughout the entire conference. Please note that all minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children ages 2-5 will be required to register for childcare and will not be permitted in conference sessions.
No childcare will be provided during the Opening Soirée on December 7, 2018. Parents/guardian should make other childcare arrangements during this time.
Will childcare be provided for children?
We will provide childcare for children ages 5 and younger. Please be sure to bring any special food (including milk) or medicine that your child requires.
Is there a lactation/pumping room at the conference venue?
Loudermilk has one wellness room on the 2nd floor. Please feel free to visit the front desk at any time during the conference and request to be escorted to the wellness room. There is a refrigerator at the front desk that can be used to store milk during the conference.
