Registration is now open for the BMMA’s 2025 Fall Perinatal Learning Series, a six-part virtual training experience designed for practitioners, advocates, and stakeholders working across maternal, perinatal, and environmental health.

This interactive learning series is rooted in environmental and reproductive justice and led by national experts and community-based leaders. Participants will gain evidence-based insights, practical tools, and strategies to strengthen their work in improving Black maternal health outcomes.

Most sessions offer Continuing Education (CE) credits, and all participants will receive access to course recordings, allowing you to learn at your own pace and revisit content on your own schedule.

Course Description: Join us on November 7th as Angela D. Aina kicks off BMMA’s 2025 Fall Perinatal Learning Series with a session grounding us in holistic, justice-centered care. This session explores Black Maternal Health Practice as a distinctive field rooted in ancestral understandings of childbearing, care, and our connection to the natural and spiritual world.

Course Description: Join us on November 10th as BWW-LA’s Tianna Shaw Wakeman explores the intersections of environmental racism and reproductive justice, highlighting how Black women and birthing people are overexposed to pollution and under protected from harm. A follow-up technical assistance session will be held on December 2nd.

Session Description: Join us on November 12th as LaTricea D. Adams, founder of Young, Gifted and Green, explores how environmental and reproductive justice intersect with birth work. This session will equip health professionals and birth workers with tools to address the impact of reproductive toxins and advocate for healthier pregnancies and birth outcomes in Black communities.

Session Description: On November 17th, Jade Sasser from University of CA, Riverside, will address the ways climate change impacts maternal mental health, from pre-pregnancy through postpartum. Presenting the current research and policy landscape, along with addressing the role of health workers in addressing this crucial challenge.

Session Description: On November 18th, Woven’s Zainab Jah and Nurturely’s Aver Yakubu will lead an interactive session centering birthworkers as key advocates for environmental and reproductive justice. Explore the intersections of climate change, maternal health, and birthwork—including topics like extreme heat education, disaster planning with doulas, and community-driven initiatives like EnviroNatal Week—with a follow-up technical assistance session December 4th.

Session Description: This closing session uncovers the hidden dangers of toxic chemicals in personal care products and their impact on maternal and perinatal health. Participants will gain tools to educate communities, advocate for safer policies, and advance maternal health equity. Includes a follow-up technical assistance session in early December.
